Power lines and poles are often involved in injury and property damage cases and claims: poles break, lines fall, and fuses blow. Our high voltage and pole line experts investigate issues related to line contacts, downed lines, clearance adequacy, and protective device performance. We evaluate equipment installations in accordance with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), as well as maintenance and repair issues. Frequently, this involves evaluating the actions of a Power Company’s procedures including:
- Turning off lines for fire departments
- De-energizing and grounding
- Insulating lines in areas of construction
- Maintenance of systems: water intrusion prevention, support hardware, transformer coolant handling
- Bringing lines up to code
- Inspections
- Tree trimming
- Responsiveness to hazards created by weather or vehicle strikes
- Pole placement – out of clear zones along highways
We have worked in power distribution centers including in the operation, maintenance and safety of substations and electrical distribution equipment. In fact, we have trained others in the electrical industry on issues of safety, industrial, commercial, and residential systems.
