John is a decorated Fire Marshal and Firefighter. As both, John addressed building code violations pertaining to fire prevention and safety. He’s received some of the best training in the country from New York State, both the New York City Fire and Police departments, as well as the U.S. Department of Treasury.
John brings over 25 years of experience in these areas to on-scene fire investigations. He conducts fire scene and burn pattern examinations to locate the origin and make initial determination of the cause, as well as forensic analysis of fire and police reports.
In addition to his other duties, John also conducted criminal investigations with regard to arson and other crimes, supervised photographers at fire and crime scenes, and examined fatal fire victims.
John is a New York State-certified Fire Investigator, level II, and he’s a member of a number of professional organizations, including the National Association of Fire Investigators.

As the Holiday Season approaches, there are all types of literature reminding us of fire safety practices during this festive time. While there is no shortage of reminders that we should not overload extension cords, keep live trees watered and away from heat sources, never leave candles unattended and be cautious when using our fireplaces I have compiled a few examples, of Holiday related fires, which I have experienced in my almost 40 years of fire fighting & fire investigation career.

- Apartment Fire - Expert Investigates to Determine Origin & Cause
A family of five was devastated when a fire broke out in their apartment in the middle of the night. Two siblings died, the three survivors suffered smoke inhalation. Robson Forensic fire investigator, John L. Tinghitella, C.F.I., was retained to determine origin and cause of the fire and assess whether or not any dangerous conditions existed that contributed to the death/injury of those involved.

- CSST - Experts Investigate Fire in Upscale Home
A fire broke out in a recently constructed upscale home during a heavy thunderstorm. Robson Forensic fire investigators were retained to investigate the fire and determine the origin and cause. Our investigator concluded that the origin of the fire was under the first floor where a hole was discovered in the flexible gas tubing. He determined that the hole had been created by a lightning strike. Based on these findings, additional Robson experts were engaged to determine if the work performed by the electrical contractor during the home’s construction was a cause of the hole in the gas tubing.
