Valentina Ngai, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Biomechanical / Biomedical Engineering Expert

Dr. Ngai is an expert in biomechanical engineering. She provides investigations, reports, and testimony toward the resolution of disputes and litigation involving traumatic injuries, including medical implants and devices; motor vehicle crashes; premises liability, workplace and sports injuries.

Dr. Ngai has been conducting research in biomechanics for nearly a decade, including five years of research conducted for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. Her research focuses on the biomechanics of human motion, including laboratory testing and evaluation of joint prostheses. In addition to her experience in biomechanics, Dr. Ngai also has several years of experience in civil engineering, conducting highway design, transportation planning, and traffic analyses.

Dr. Ngai holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She was published in the Journal of Biomechanics, Wear, and the Journal of Engineering in Medicine. She has presented her research at numerous international conferences including the Orthopaedic Research Society, Wear on Materials, World Congress of Biomechanics and was also an invited speaker at the 10th International Essen Symposium in Germany. Dr. Ngai is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario, Canada and also holds degrees in Civil and Mechanical Engineering.

      A security guard was badly scalded by hot water from an outdoor hose bibb. She had been patrolling a public housing complex when she saw water running and tried to shut off the valve. As soon as the hot water hit her skin, she was scalded. We measured the water temperature at over 185 degrees F. Tracing the lines back through the system showed ,how in the course of repairs, maintenance workers had piped the bibb from a tap into the nearby hot water piping instead of the cold.
