John D. Plout, P.E.

John has extensive engineering experience involving heavy trucks, with specific experience in the design and engineering of fire trucks. With 14 years experience at Pierce Manufacturing (the nation’s leading manufacturer of fire trucks by volume) in various management and technical areas, his expertise reaches nearly every area of the truck including: custom chassis, commercial chassis, cab, electrical, pumphouse, brakes, steering, tanks and body. Most of the 1,600 trucks Pierce sells each year are custom orders, which has given John experience engineering both commercial components as well as unique, one-off units.
In addition to custom fire truck components, John also has experience producing components for several of the largest heavy truck manufacturers, including Peterbilt, Kenworth and Foden. His expertise extends to filament wound composite structures including; electrical truck booms, pressure vessels and structural components, metal fabrication, and ASME section VIII and X pressure vessels.
John is a registered Professional Engineer with degrees in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Engineering Management. He is also a certified PMP (project management professional) and Six Sigma Green Belt. In his free time, John enjoys sailing and riding motorcycles.
