Structural Engineering Expert - Structural Engineer & Special (Threshold) Inspector

Mark Duckett, P.E., S.I. is an expert in structural engineering, including building design and inspection, professional liability, value engineering, building defects, and merchandise displays used in retail settings. He is also an expert in wind engineering; specifically, how wind acts upon structures and how structures react to the wind.

Mark has over 26 years of professional experience in structural engineering; in this time he has designed and inspected all types of structures including residential, commercial, marine, industrial, institutional, religious, retail, hi-rise, and warehouse. His expertise extends to almost every type of building material, including concrete, steel, wood, masonry and many other types of materials.

Mark has experience rewriting structural portions of the building code. He provides consultation to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers in professional liability matters and has also provided professional opinions on matters related to value engineering, code compliance and professional standard-of-care. Mark is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is also a Special (Threshold) Inspector in Florida. He is a registered Professional Engineer in multiple states.

      While construction was being performed on an adjacent site, the owner of an 80,000 square foot, two story office building complained repeatedly of vibrations in his building. After the construction was over he later claimed to have just discovered significant damage to his five year old building that could only have been caused by the vibrations. We reviewed the claimed damage, the original construction drawings for the owner’s building and the history of the adjacent construction.
