Francesca Cibotti, Materials Science & Failure Analysis Expert

Francesca Cibotti is a failure analysis and materials science expert with a decade of process-focused experience spanning massive, large scale industrial equipment in the oil and gas industry, as well as consumer products. Francesca applies her expertise to forensic investigations involving product and material failures.

Francesca began her career in the oil and gas industry. At Chevron, she worked in materials reliability and failure analysis, carrying out analyses of hardware ranging from heat exchangers and rotating equipment to nonmetallic materials. Much of her work involved corrosion mitigation and prevention through the development and application of protective coatings.

Pivoting to the realm of consumer products, Francesca went on to work at Apple as a Program Manager in their Failure Analysis Lab performing failure analysis and testing on anodized aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, polymer films and adhesives, polymer composites, fluorocarbons, SiO2/SiN displays, copper traces/MLBs, and more. Francesca has experience in numerous analytical techniques, such as electron microscopy, mechanical property evaluation, dynamic mechanical analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and many more.

Francesca earned her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering – Metallurgy from the University of Florida. She holds two U.S. Patents. Francesca has been published in Materials Performance and has presented her research internationally.
