Michael has more than 25 years of engineering and design experience in a diverse group of civil engineering disciplines including transportation design, heavy construction, design-build projects, construction inspection, materials testing and aquatic facility design. This includes working at multiple positions in the industry ranging from field survey and data collection to construction inspection, materials testing quality control, transportation facility design (interstate highways, collector roads, urban streets and recreational multi-use trails), field engineering and project management.
Michael has also had the pleasure of participating as a project engineer on multiple historic canal structure projects including the full rehabilitation of Lock C-4 on the Champlain Canal and the repair/rehabilitation of Movable Dam 8 on the Erie Canal. Over the years, he has worked with state departments of transportation, authorities, municipal governments, consulting engineers, contractors and private owners.
As a project engineer on heavy-highway construction projects, Mike's work has included hands-on experience including developing construction plans and specifications, scheduling, project safety, work zone traffic control, project management and dispute resolution. He has dealt with matters involving fall protection, excavation safety, rigging and working with various types of construction equipment.
In addition to his background in transportation design and construction, Michael has design experience with aquatic facilities including natatoriums, community pools and waterparks – both indoor and outdoor. His knowledge base includes the licensing of aquatic facilities and the design and use of pool mechanical systems, process piping, pumps, filtration, disinfection systems, wave generation and pool appurtenances (such as main drains, gutters, inlets, suction wells, balance tanks, hydro-therapy fittings, waterfalls and play features).
Michael earned his civil engineering degree from Union College and is a licensed Professional Engineer in more than a dozen states. He participates in the Upstate New York/ Capitol District Damage Prevention Council of Dig Safely NY and has completed various professional and safety training courses including OSHA certification in construction safety and health.
