Physical Therapy Experts / Occupational Therapy Experts

The physical therapy experts at Robson Forensic investigate cases involving the standards of care for patient safety at healthcare facilities and in other inpatient, outpatient, and home care settings. Physical and Occupational Therapists often hold administrative roles within healthcare facilities overseeing safety-critical functions that include patient handling (fall prevention), durable medical equipment, and speech therapy (feeding).

The Role of Physical & Occupational Therapists

Therapists evaluate patient abilities and contribute to individualized care plans by specifying the level of assistance and types of assistive devices that are required to aid in patient treatment and preventing falls and other adverse events.  In many facilities, a PT or OT also issues, inspects, and adjusts durable medical equipment (DME) for the needs of the individual patient.

Therapists assess how patients perform activities of daily living and are responsible for training interdisciplinary teams including nurses and LPNS to use DME such as patient lifts, transfer devices, wheelchairs, shower chairs, walkers, scooters, and other assistive devices.

Therapy directors also commonly lead falls committees, investigate fall incidents after they occur, and participate in environment of care rounds, where they assess the safety and accessibility of the healthcare setting.

PT / OT Experts Often Investigate Healthcare Cases Involving:

  • Patient Transfers
  • Wheelchair Incidents
  • Durable Medical Equipment (assessment, adjustment, and training)
  • Bathing & Personal Care
  • Toileting
  • Patient Feeding (choking hazards)
  • Safety of the environment
  • Non-Emergency Medical Transport
