Slips, Trips, and Falls
Premises Safety & Security

Slip, Trip, and Fall Experts

Our architects are uniquely qualified to evaluate the safety of places where people slip, trip, and fall. Their architectural training, education, and experience are the basis of their expertise in the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings, walkways, and other developed spaces. Robson Forensic architects bring the additional perspective gained through our company’s more than twenty years of involvement in safety codes, and standards for safe walking surfaces, as well as our experience gained in reviewing thousands of similar cases and claims.

Designed for Safety

Architects design and build environments to be safe and efficient, and to comply with established standards. Stairs, walkways, handrails, and other architectural features have been refined throughout the generations to enhance usability for people of various physical and cognitive abilities. When building features fail to comply with established safety standards, they sometimes contribute to the cause of injuries.

Our architectural experts assist in explaining how an incident happened and why it occurred. They regularly evaluate premises for compliance with applicable safety standards; where safety violations exist, our experts can explain the relationship between the condition and the circumstances of the incident.

Properly informed and warned pedestrians can safely walk in most environments, or make informed choices to avoid known hazards. Causes of falls are often the result of a mismatch between the conditions a pedestrian commonly encounters and those they actually encountered at the incident site. Our architects not only evaluate if the conditions related to a fall violated applicable standards for safety, but can also evaluate if appropriate guidance was in place to safely direct pedestrians through a building or site.

Where conditions related to falls developed over time, our experience in construction and maintenance planning provides a unique basis to explain how and when hazardous conditions developed.

Slip, Trip & Fall Expert Investigations Include:

  • Explaining the root causes of a slip, trip, or fall incidents
  • Slip resistance testing
  • Evaluating compliance with standards of care and codes
  • Assessing property maintenance and housekeeping practices
  • Evaluating design and construction causal factors
