Towed water sports investigations draw experts from our Admiralty & Maritime and our Sports & Recreation practices. These activities include many of the same risks associated with land based athletics, but introduce unique risks associated with an outdoor water environment and the use of high powered watercraft.
Tow sports include any water sport involving a tow line, such as water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing. The training and preparation for these activities share many of the risks associated with strength training, gymnastics, and downhill winter sports. Where these sports differ from land-based activities is the introduction of drowning hazards and high powered watercraft.
Our sports experts are frequently retained to address proper techniques associated with tow sports, including equipment use and maintenance, and issues with training and competition. Our maritime experts are frequently involved to address issues with boat operations and marine Rules of the Road. When necessary, our marine engineers are available to perform a complete reconstruction of an allision or collision. We also have professional mariners available who can speak to the responsibility of commercial vessels operating in proximity to recreational boaters.
